J & J Indexing is the
home-based business of Jack Lewis and Jerilyn Sproston. Jack
and Jerilyn live in the rural coastal area of Northern California.
They began indexing as a means of earning a living in a remote
area. Their combined interests and experience allow them to provide
indexes on a wide range of topics.
Jack has a liberal arts background graduating from Pomona
College with a degree in history. His occupational
experience has been varied but with a general emphasis in the
publishing industry. He was trained in indexing by Nancy Mulvany
(past president of American Society of Indexers) at the University
of California at Berkeley. Jack has also studied Web Indexing
with Kevin Broccoli of Broccoli Information Management. Jack
has been indexing full time for the past eight years His indexes
cover many types of material, including computer technology,
politics, philosophy, math and science, law, animal rights,
gardening, sociology, and baseball. Balancing his work-related

JERILYN SPROSTON
Jerilyn graduated with a degree in English from the
University of British Columbia. Her work experience
has included teaching and most recently Web design and administration
for a real estate marketing firm. She completed the USDA indexing
course and has been a full time indexer for the past six years.
Her indexes cover a range of topics similar to Jack’s
listed above, but also include indexes on diet and health,
entertainment, and cooking. Jerilyn's non-work interests
include interior decorating, children's education, and hiking.
